Betty Arbon

September 21, 1938 — January 1, 2022

Betty Joanne Arbon, age 83, passed away in her home on January 1, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.  Betty was born in Fairplay, Colorado on September 21, 1938, and was raised in East Carbon, Utah.  After graduating from Carbon High School, Betty moved to Salt Lake City where she met and married the love of her life, Norman.

When her kids were young, Betty worked at Mountain Bell, as a librarian at Walnut Hills Elementary School, and then as an Admissions Director at Colorado Outward Bound School.  Betty had an immense passion for the mission of Colorado Outward Bound School and was able to offer her children wilderness experiences that would be forever cherished.  She was also able to go on a few river trips and a weeklong horse-trailing trip.

Betty loved to camp, fish, ride horses, and play cards with her dear friends.  She considered herself a cowgirl at heart and even mucked stalls as a little girl in trade for horse riding time.  She was an avid sports fan and could be found cheering on her favorite, and not so favorite, football, baseball, basketball, and hockey teams.  She could even be found watching an occasional golf or tennis match.   A natural extrovert, Betty could make a friend wherever she went, whether it was in a grocery store, airport, checkout stand, or church.  She had a gift for genuinely making everyone in her life feel special, and a quick wit that kept everyone laughing.

Betty had boundless energy and could outpace people half her age!   Even in times when she was not feeling well, she still wanted to go for rides and take short trips to the mountains.  Her love for travel took her to many places across the United States, as well as to the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Canada, Mexico, and Costa Rica.

Betty loved her family with all her heart.  Her three grandsons were what she described as “her purpose”.  Betty was the loudest cheerleader and biggest fan at her grandsons’ sporting events.  She made every day spent with them magical, but especially holidays, which included scavenger hunts at Easter, Christmas cookie making, St. Patrick’s Day feasts, and sweet treats for Valentine's Day.  She was the family matriarch and a shining light to all she knew.  She has left a legacy of love and in turn, was loved by so many people.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Norman Arbon, their son, Greg Arbon (Beth), daughter, Michelle Huggins (Brian), and three grandsons, Graham, Luke, and Connor.  She is also survived by two siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, Jim and Mike, and two siblings, Evelyn and Bob.

Funeral services will take place at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (11755 Tara Lane - Parker, Colorado) on Saturday, January 15 at 12:30 pm.  Family condolences will be received one hour before the service.  Interment services at Fort Logan Cemetery will be for immediate family on the following Monday.   Flowers can be delivered to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints - 11755 Tara Lane - Parker, CO 80134.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Boulder County Wildfire Fund at: https://www.coloradogives.org/bouldercountywildfirefund?step=step1
