Betty Lous Davis

Betty Lou Davis was born on December 21, 1926 in Mullinville, Kansas to Fearon and Nellie May Ricketts. She passed away on July 1, 2016 in Swedish Hospital in Englewood, CO at the age of 89. She resided in Denver. She is preceded in death by her husband Jay Davis, sons Rodney Davis, Michael Davis, Rick Davis, her sister Cecile Hunter, brothers DeWayne Ricketts, Allen Ricketts and Gene Ricketts. She is survived by her daughter Cindy Becker and husband Marvin of Greenwood Village, CO. Her grandchildren also survive her. Craig Becker and fiancé Tracy Swen, Lance Becker and wife Emily, Niccie Tanner and husband Arlan, Sunni Slinger and husband Shane, Sherri Davis, Dawn Reese, April Davis, Jassie Smith and husband Tom, and Jace Davis and wife Kate. She also has 21 great grandchildren. Claire, Jacob and Erin Becker and Danielle and Hailey Swen, Eli and Lawson Becker, Emily, Daniel and Micah Tanner, Libby, McKinzee and Autum Slinger, Rhiannon and Kyler Davis, Kelsea Reese, Blake Davis, Avry and Kayla Smith and Xander and Sienna Davis. She was born on the farm in Mullinville, KS and spent her young years there before her family moved to Sublette, KS. Her father and mother farmed, raised cattle and chickens. She graduated from Sublette High School in 1944. After high school she worked in a jewelry store and a grocery market cutting meat. She married Jay Davis on December 22, 1945 in Garden City, KS. A daughter Cindy and a son Rodney were born in Kansas. They moved from Kansas to south of Vona, CO in the fall of 1948. Two more sons Michael and Rick were born. She and her husband Jay farmed and raised cattle. She lived on the farm several years after her husband passed then moved into the town of Vona. She also lived in Burlington, CO for a few years before moving to Denver to be close to her daughter. After her children were all in school she owned a gift shop in Stratton for several years. She enjoyed all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's school and sports activities. She was involved in the Worthwhile Home Demonstration Club in Vona, Share Food Program and helped in the Vona, Hi-Plains, and Stratton schools. She traveled to South America and all over the United States. She really enjoyed seeing and watching all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. She spent many hours cooking and baking cookies with them. They loved going to stay with grandma and grandpa. She was always there when her family needed help whether it was watching grandchildren or helping with projects. She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vona Cemetery, Vona, Colorado.
