Betty Jean Day

Betty Jean Day, long time resident of Aurora, CO died in Wheat Ridge, CO on Jan 14, 2020.

Born May 24, 1929 to Ralph and Esther Kelsey in Macon, MO, Betty moved with her father to Gresham, OR where she later met her husband, Benson. They started a family and moved to Seattle a few years later. In 1971, they moved their family to Aurora, CO where they resided for many years.

Betty was a secretary with Colorado Dept of Health for more than 20 years. She retired in 1994 and continued her hobbies of hiking, photography, enjoying classical music, and traveling with her husband, often taking trips by train.

Betty was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church.

Determined also to contribute to her neighbors in Aurora, she began volunteering with Meals on Wheels and helping with kindergarten children at a local elementary school. She belonged to Aurora Senior Center where she engaged in hiking trips and quilting with other seniors. She also belonged to Colorado Quilting Council and helped with their activities. She made quilts for the Orphan Grain Train with a group from her church.

Betty was known for her love of a good pun. She was an avid gardener and had many pen pals.

Survivors include sons Daniel Day of Corbett, OR and Theodore Day of Arvada, CO, daughters Debra Farr of Colorado Springs, CO and Aline Levitt of Englewood, CO, nine grandchildren, and 3 great grandsons. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband.

Services will be held at 11 AM on January 31st at Hope Lutheran Church, 1345 Macon St, Aurora, CO. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver CO at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to Hope Lutheran Church, Smile Train and Mercy Ships.
