Betty Lou Geron
On Friday January 6, 2023, Betty Lou Geron passed away at the age of 88. She was surround by family in the home of her daughter Stefanie Geron-Day and husband Mike Day.
Betty was born March 2, 1934, in Red Wing, Minnesota to her parents Gayle Strole and Ruth Strole. She was the oldest of three daughters Pat Robinette, and Jackie Nitsch.
As an infant Betty lived in Austin Minnesota for a short time. Often her family traveled to Cope Co in the summers to visit the ranch of her great uncle Jay Poole. In 1940 the family moved to Cope, Colorado permanently and opened a Café called Hungry's. The café was in the front and their home was connected in the back. In 1946 when the café and family home burned down, they moved to Denver, where Betty finished her school years. Although she grew up in the city, Betty still loved the country life. The family enjoyed going to Rodeos and barn dances.
Granny (Ruth) would tell stories about Betty, when she would walk into a room all the heads would turn. She was a beautiful red head with green eyes! In the 1950's when there was a Rodeo there was also a barn dance, and let's say her dance card was continually full! Even as Betty grew older people always noticed her. She had a vibrant aura and was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside.
As Betty got older, she worked in sales for Neusteter's Department store. It was once considered the leading women's wear retailer outside of New York. This is where her passion for fashion, and clothing began. She was always very chic and trendsetting. In the 1960's Betty was a representative for Beauty Counselor Cosmetic Company. During the 1980's and 1990's Betty provided childcare for families.
Betty met John thru mutual friends, she would always laugh when she told the story of John dribbling ice cream down the front of his shirt. She found it endearing, and that is where their love story began.
On April 7, 1955, Betty married John G. Geron. They bought home in the Bear Valley area of Denver, and raised two daughters Sheryl Williams Starkenberg and Stefanie Geron Day; four grandchildren, Nichole McKinney, Jerrid Geron, Nicholas Williams Starkenberg, and Jacelynn Day; three great-grandchildren, Corey McKinney Jr, Natalie McKinney, and Maverick Colbert.
Betty had many interests, and took great pride in being a homemaker. She was an excellent cook, and could take the simplest of ingredients and make a delicious meal. She loved reading, especially Nora Roberts books. She was a hopeless romantic. She also enjoyed crocheting and made many blankets, towels, and wash clothes for us. Another one of her many passions was gardening. Betty was a member of the Fleur de Lis Garden Club for over 30 years. Betty and John enjoyed spending time in the yard. They had many beautiful flower beds, we had several BBQ's, Birthday parties, and 4th of July celebrations at their home. Betty loved red Geraniums and would plant them in the front planter every year. They were one of her favorite flowers.
Betty was always up for an adventure; she enjoyed the camping trips with her family at Chatfield and Lake Pueblo. She still liked, even in later years, going to the County Fair and Rodeo. She was always a "Country Girl" at heart.
Betty loved God and was a Christian, her faith and trust in God was strong. She was the one that everyone went to with their problems, or when they needed a little help. She was our island in the middle of the ocean of life, our unwavering rock. She would say "Pray to God" about it, and then tell us "God will never give you more than you can handle". She would always do whatever she could to comfort and help us through whatever we were struggling with. Betty was a loyal loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She gave to All of us unselfishly, without expecting anything in return. She was a kind and compassionate spirit and is an example of what we all should aspire to be. She will be Dearly Missed and Forever Loved.
Betty was proceeded in death by her parents, Gayle and Ruth Strole husband John Geron; sister Pat Robinette; grandson Nicholas Williams-Starkenburg; brother-in-law Jim Robinette;nephew Scott Robinette.
