Betty Hinsvark passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025 at the age of 100 (4 months shy of 101) from natural causes. Betty was the family matriarch and was truly a member of “The Greatest Generation.” She spoke her mind and took the world in stride. She was a strong woman with a big heart. She loved baking (homemade bread, cinnamon rolls, cookies, pies and her famous chocolate cake) - especially with the grandchildren, telling funny stories, doing puzzles, reading the newspaper every day and looking forward to the funnies on Sundays. Her love of life was infectious and she was always young at heart; so much so that she was once found line dancing at a honky-tonk at age 83.
Betty was born on August 10, 1924, in Adrian, Minnesota to Ernest and Lena Wibbens. The family moved to Milbank, South Dakota where she grew up and graduated from High School. After graduating, she worked at Morell’s Meat Packing Company, in Sioux Falls, SD, with one of her sisters “skinning wieners” (she would always laugh when telling that story). As a young woman, she worked in Chicago, IL, as a switchboard operator at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company.
Betty loved her husband, children and grandchildren. She enjoyed yard work, potting flowers, watching birds and the Denver Broncos. She and Glenn relocated to Aurora, Colorado in 1959 with Don and Dawn in tow. Shortly after, Shawn was born. Betty was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest went to kindergarten. She worked at Samsonite until her retirement. Betty kept an immaculate house and a perfect yard and won several “Yard of the Month” awards. She enjoyed making improvements to her house and entertaining family and friends – in particular, her summer patio parties. In 2019 she moved-in with her youngest daughter’s family and spent her remaining years there.
Betty (also, known as Jane to her family growing up) was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 36 years, Glenn E. Hinsvark. She was one of 14 children and has one surviving sister in Texas, Myrtle Pollard – 92 years old.
Betty is survived by her son, Donald L. Hinsvark, Don’s wife, Deb, grandchildren Casey, Effie, Abby and Cindy. Her daughter, Dawn S. Hinsvark, Dawn’s husband, Scott, grandchildren Shishan and Colin. Her youngest daughter, Shawn R. Hinsvark, Shawn’s husband, Joe, grandchild, Kyle. She also leaves behind 4 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews that she loved and adored.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a memorial donation in Betty’s honor to The Denver Hospice. Specifically to: Inpatient Care Center (ICC)
