Betty Lobenhofer

Betty was born in Chicago, July 22, 1919 to Louis George Shackel and Mignon Marie (Steele) Shackel. Betty was an excellent student and life-long learner, graduating from high school at 16 years old. She then completed a 2-year business school certificate before graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising from the College of Commerce of the University of Illinois. Following graduation she worked for a Chicago advertising firm. While volunteering at the University of Illinois Alumni Center in Chicago she met her future husband, Frederick C. Lobenhofer, whom she married in 1944. They moved to Denver in 1948, becoming enthusiastic Coloradans. Betty worked as a legal secretary before she had her first child, a son, followed by a daughter, three years later. Betty learned to camp, sharing the gift with her family and as the Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troop. For over 15 years Betty worked for JHB Imports, a specialty button import firm, as the administrative assistant. Betty was an alum initiate of Alpha Phi fraternity. Betty cared for her husband Frederick as he battled Alzheimer's Disease for ten years before he preceded her in death. She then volunteered doing office work for 9 years with Girl Scouts. Betty enjoyed spending time with family (especially grandchildren, of whom she was especially proud) and friends, travel, mountain drives and picnics, playing cards, crossword puzzles, watching sports on TV and discussing current events.

Betty is survived by her sister, Joanne (Ron) Hopley; her children Louis (Carol) and Leslie (w.); her grandchildren, Kristina (Matthew), Lauren (Samuel), Angela (Reid), Kimberly and Ryan; and her great-grandchildren: Monica, Hannah, Navah, Elisha, Tirzah, Hadassah, Laura, and Lucy.

There will be a memorial service for Betty at the Horan & McConaty Chapel Thursday, August 16, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, CO 80014. In lieu of flowers we suggest donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado,
