Betty Shideler, age 83, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away on August 17, 2013. Preceded in death by husband Joseph Shideler and brother Terry Tipton. Mother of Deborah (Douglas) Thorpe and Steven (Michelle) Shideler. Grandmother of Brian (Beth), Wesley, Samuel and Matthew. Sister of Charles (Mae) Tipton, and sister-in-law Corniela Shideler. Betty was the daughter of Herbert and Ruth Tipton and grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She graduated from South Side High School and the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Fort Wayne. Through the years she worked in various nursing situations, and concluded her professional work at the American Red Cross working with the Bloodmobile in industries in the Detroit area where they lived at the time. She also used her professional skills volunteering along with Joe on Shriner Medical bus trips. When they returned to Fort Wayne in their retirement, Joe and Betty also volunteered with the American Red Cross being on call to assist fire victims to get immediate help following a fire. Betty enjoyed being a part of the Eastern Star and was an avid reader always having a good book nearby. In addition, she was a Duplicate Bridge player enjoying the competition and the friends. She was especially proud of her children and their families, taking great joy in their activities and accomplishments. Family will hold private services in Indiana.
