Betty Yvonne Welch, 88, retired Denver Public Schools teacher and administrator, passed away November 30, 2011. Born January 13, 1923 in Stanton, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Kal and Joan Kautzman. She graduated from Boulder High School in 1940, received her B.A. from C.U. in 1944, and a Master of Arts from D.U. in 1949. Betty taught at Heart Mountain Japanese Internment Camp before teaching at DPS from 1946 to 1981. She co-authored a literature anthology for Ginn and Co. publishers, and was a lecturer at Arapahoe Community College. She received the Denver Public Schools' Education Service Award in 1981, the Arapahoe Community College Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Service in 1983, and was a Delta Kappa Gamma Golden Rose in 2009. Betty was active in the Assistance League, and volunteered at the Denver Art Museum. She loved opera, symphony, and above all, her dogs. A Funeral Mass will be 2:00 Monday at Mother of God Catholic Church. Entombment services will be at Mountain View Memorial Park in Boulder.
