Betty Williams

September 9, 1954 — January 31, 2021

Denver, CO

Betty Lymon Williams, age 66, unexpectedly passed away on January 31, 2021. Born in Denver, CO on September 9, 1954, Betty was the daughter of the late TSgt Samuel Williams and Winfra Jean Williams (nee: Rhodes), and sister of the late Elbert Williams. As the second of four children raised in an Air Force family, Betty lived her childhood in Colorado, Nevada, California, Germany and Libya.

Betty graduated from Bitburg American High School in Bitburg, GE in 1973. Returning to the U.S.A in 1975 upon her father's retirement, Betty lived in Denver. She worked as a cashier on Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center (FAMC) before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1979. While in the Army, Betty served in Worms, Germany; Fort Meade, MD; Seoul, South Korea; and Fort Campbell, KY. She performed duty as a Data Telecommunications Operator and later as a Traffic Management Coordinator.

During her active-duty service, Betty was twice awarded the Good Conduct Medal; and also received the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, and Expert Badges in M16 Rifle and Hand Grenade. After nearly nine years of service, Betty was honorably discharged in 1988. Over the ensuing years, Betty lived in Atlanta, GA; Milwaukee, WI; and Danville KY, where she worked in retail, clerical and environmental services, and home health care. In 2008, Betty retired and resided in Newark, DE.

A loving sister and aunt, Betty was extremely fond of her family. Having no children of her own, Betty enjoyed visiting and hearing about the lives and activities of her brother, two sisters and numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws via phone calls and social media. She absolutely adored her dogs: Shadow, who pre-deceased her, and Charlie; both of whom were the loves of her life. Betty enjoyed riding her bike, walking her dog(s), coloring, taking day trips, and participating in activities at the Veteran's Administration (VA) in Elsmere, DE.

In addition to her parents and brother, Betty was pre-deceased by her grandparents Hattie ( "Kitty" ) and Thomas Jackson. She is survived by her sisters Denise R. Elliott (Clarence, Jr.) of Newark, DE and Vanita L. Warren (David) of Colorado Springs, CO; her sister-in-law Paula Williams of Denver, CO; her nieces Angela Trent of Lewis Center, OH; Leslie Ann Williams (Alain), Jennifer Williams, and Victoria Williams of Denver, CO; and her nephews Christopher Elliott (Lynette) of Oxen Hill, MD; Clarence III of Seattle, WA; Samuel Warren of Seattle, WA; and Jesse Williams f Denver, CO. Other survivors include her grand-nieces and grand-nephew: Dana and Celeste Trent; Jaslene and Isabella Irizarry; Serenity and Nehemiah Williams; and Olive Elliott.
