Betty Eileen Zahalsky

July 14, 1934 — January 23, 2019

Betty lived her life taking care of those she loved. Betty was born and raised in Colorado. She was the second of five siblings. From an early age she learned about caring for the family home from her mother, Emma. She loved mountain trips, going hunting and fishing with her father, Alex. She learned to care for her siblings, helping her sister, Henrietta, care for their twin sisters, Jane and June. Later she would develop a special relationship caring for her little brother, Alex, Jr.

In 1954, Betty married the love of her life, Sidney. She made it her job to create the most comfortable home wherever they lived. Soon they would add two daughters, Debi and Diana, to their family. She spent many years caring for the girls, making sure they looked perfect for school every day. She took them to countless music, art, skating lessons and such, all while maintaining a spotless, beautiful home for her family.

Betty was always a caregiver. It was her mission in life. Some years later she would continue to care for all of her grandchildren while the girls pursued their careers. Jessica, Brian, Kevin and then John could tell you many stories of spending special time with Grandma and Grandpa.

Betty also loved her church home. She spent many wonderful years at Denver First Church of the Nazarene. She loved her church family and she especially loved singing in the church choir for more than 30 years.

Children and grandchildren now grown, Betty would soon find herself in the role of primary caregiver for her beloved husband. Sid developed Alzheimer’s and Betty would care for him until dementia would also take her memory from her. She moved to the Julia Temple Care Center with Sid where she stayed by his side until his death in April of 2018.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Debi and Diana. She is also survived by her brother, Alex; 4 grandchildren, Jessica, Brian, Kevin and John; and 3 great-grandchildren, Cholie, Makala, and Tiggy.
