Beverly M. Petersen

Beverly Mae Petersen was born in Benington Nebraska in 1934. She was the first born child to Evelyn and Norman Petersen and the beloved older sister of Shirley Vander Wiel and Lynn Petersen. She was a remarkable person that did not let anything stand in her way. As a motivated and self-made woman she was highly educated with a Masters in Physical Education. The following are among her many achievements: ' Served as the Athletic Director of Physical Education for Denver Public Schools ' Served as President in 1976 and Executive Secretary in 1982 of the Colorado Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance ' Served on The Executive Committee of Colorado Athletic Directors Association in 1982 ' Recipient of the YWCA Sportswomen of Colorado Leadership Award (1984) ' Recipient of the Lotte Jhelik Volunteer of the Year Award from The Denver Dumb Friends League (1996). ' Volunteered weekly as a health care/surgical support aide at the Denver Dumb Friends League. ' Fostered hundreds of puppies from the Dumb Friends League. ' Coordinated over 200 volunteers for the annual Furry Scurry fundraiser for several years. (In 1996 the Scurry had 2,600 participants and raised $157,000.) ' Recipient of the Dedicated Service Award from the Denver Dumb Friends League (2016) We are all so honored to have had Beverly in our lives. She was a strong-willed, loyal friend and family member with the strongest love and servitude for dogs that blessed all.
