Beverly Ruth Ashby Obert Sullivan was born on September 25, 1926 in Lakeland, FL to Stanley and Esther Ashby. She died on August 17, 2017 in Denver, CO. Beverly graduated from East High School in Madison, WI in 1944. She was one of the first people in her family to achieve a college degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in 1948. In August of 1946, she married H. R. “Dude” Obert. They had three children, Laura, Stan and Jan. Due to Dude’s employment in the oil industry, the Obert family was constantly on the move. Bev and Dude were divorced in 1965. Bev moved to Colorado Springs, CO to be near her mother. Bev learned to ski at the age of 36. It became her life long passion. Bev was a long time member of the ski patrol and became one of the first women to be certified in avalanche rescue. Bev married Robert Sullivan in January 1971 and moved to Albuquerque, NM where Bob was residing. Bev worked for ten years for the New Mexico department of Social Welfare. She retired in 1990. Once she retired, she pursued her other great passion, travel. Bev traveled to five continents, visiting such places as the Great Wall of China, Turkey, Manchu Picchu, the Brandenburg gate and the ruins of Troy. When she was 76, she road a camel in the desert of Morocco. Take that, Richard Halliburton! (Google him). Bev is preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Esther Ashby, her daughter Laura Obert, her nephew George Ashby and her husband Robert Sullivan. Bev is survived by her son Stan Obert (Christine), her daughter Jan Obert, her brother Philip Ashby (Jane), three nieces Cindy Ashby, Diane Ashby and Karen Flack (Jeff), great nephew Evan Flack, great niece Audrey Flack, and step-daughter Kathy Nucci. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11AM at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd. Denver, CO 80246, followed by a reception, also at Horan & McConaty.
