William N. Ekstrand, ""BILL"", 71, of Denver, passed away with his family at his side on Monday, March 5, 2012. Trained as an engineer, he worked 30 years for Exxon and later owned Cabinets by Design in Grand Junction. Bill treasured his family, travel, food and friendships. He lived a rich volunteer life, working most recently with Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver and Meals on Wheels. This commitment to volunteerism began with coaching youth activities with his kids and later included extensive work with United Way in Grand Junction and Junior Achievement in Houston. Bill had a relentlessly active mind which was constantly engaged in helping people to be nurtured by their living spaces and their natural environments. He will be greatly missed by his wife Anita Cox; sister Judi Cochrane; daughters Carrie Eckart and Laura Ekstrand (Joe Zawila); son Chris Ekstrand (Tori Smith), and grandchildren Zachary Zawila and Elizabeth Ekstrand and his beloved Shar-Pei Maggie. A celebration of his life will be held Sunday, March 18 at 3:00 pm at the Mamie Eisenhower Recreation Center in Denver. Gifts may be sent to Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver.
