Billy Glen Pollard

December 8, 1926 — February 28, 2012

In attempting to write a third-person obituary for our Dad, we found it impossible, as the words can only be expressed in a loving, first-person way. His whole life was spent taking care of others, and he touched so many lives in so many ways. He must have brought such Christmas joy to his parents, Lela and Walter, on December 8, 1926 in Alvarado, Texas, when that brilliant smile and infectious laugh was born. Growing up as the youngest of five children, he observed the characters and quirks of small-town Texas life, and throughout the rest of his life he spent hours entertaining us all with stories of Alvarado that included spot-on impersonations that had us laughing and asking for more! As our brother would have said, 'He was a treat!' I am certain that his one surviving sister, Helen Johnson, would be better able to fill in the details of his childhood, and we hope that we have that opportunity. Billy lost his own father as a teenager, and was a tremendous support to his mother for the remainder of her life. After graduation from high school, Billy served in the U.S. Army, and after completing a tour of duty, attended Texas Christian University. He was then made a job offer from a cousin in sales at RJReynolds, and a lifelong career began. His magnetic personality served him well in that chosen field, as he moved his family from Dallas to Houston, and then lastly to Littleton, where he retired as regional sales manager after 35 years. Retirement agreed with Billy, and he and our mother, Janie, whom he married on December 22, 1951, embarked on a joyful second stage of their life that included children Adelia, Glenda, and Joe; grandchildren Leah and Charlotte; son-in-law Stephen; motorhomes, Texas, Hawai'i, Lake Dillon, the neighborhood, and a host of dear friends and family that helped to make their lives complete. Billy fell ill in December 2011 and passed away on February 28, 2012 at Littleton Adventist Hospital, as he still mourned the passing of his dear Janie and Joe. But he had lived his life in full with integrity, charm, wit, and grace, and love for all that had touched his life, and he stated on the last day of his life that he had no regrets. We will miss him so very much. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Columbine United Church, 6375 South Platte Canyon Road, Littleton, Colorado 80123. Memorial contributions may be made in Billy's name to Columbine United Church, 6375 South Platte Canyon Road, Littleton, Colorado 80123. Please share your memories of Billy and condolences with his family by signing the guestbook.
