Birdie Jewel Dodd

April 26, 1928 — April 23, 2011

Birdie Jewel Easter was born on April 26, 1928 to Charlie and Carrie Easter in Carter Oklahoma. She had 10 brothers: Grover, Clinton, Glen, Elvern, Lee Ray, Charles, Joe and 3 sisters: Bonnie, Josie and Syble. Growing up she played basketball and worked on the family farm along with many other activities, that will not be named here. She graduated from Highway High School in 1947. Birdie met her future husband, Guy Dodd, in a local grocery store in Elk City, Oklahoma. Birdie and Guy were married July 10, 1948. They had 2 children while they lived in Oklahoma, Cheryl and Jeff, but 3 weeks after the birth of Jeff they moved out of Oklahoma and landed in Denver, Colorado. They liked Denver so much that they stayed and had 3 more children: Greg, Jason and Janan. Birdie raised her children and then worked outside of the home. She worked in and managed many different restaurants. Birdie and Guy both liked the restaurant business so much that they bought one, and packed up the family and moved to Cheyenne, Oklahoma to give it a go. They found the draw of Colorado to be too much, and moved back to Colorado. She loved her children, but loved having grandchildren even more. She always said you could spoil them and then give them back to mom and dad. Birdie had five children: Cheryl, who lives in Colorado; Jeff, who lives in Colorado; Greg, who lives with his life partner, Beverley Evenson in Florida; Jason, who lives in Colorado; Janan, who lives in Colorado with her husband Jim Smith. Her grandkids are Kristy, who lives in Missouri with her husband Mason Metheney; Nicole, who lives in California with her husband Josh Reynolds, Kristopher, who lives in Colorado; Shane, who also lives in Colorado. Another source of great pride was her 2 great grandchildren, Hunter and Madux Metheney. The children state: Our mother gave her love and kindness unconditionally to her children, family and friends, even though you may not have deserved it. At times we didn't, but she gave it anyway. She was always upbeat and an inspiration in our lives and we will miss her deeply, as we are sure anybody that crossed her path will. Birdie passed away April 23, 2011 Visitation, Wednesday, 12PM-8PM, and Funeral Service, Thursday, 10AM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3020 Federal Blvd., Denver. Interment, Crown Hill Cemetery.
