Blanche Button

July 7, 1923 — September 28, 2013

Blanche Burns Osborne Button was born to Alma and Joseph Burns in Nenana, AK, July 7, 1923 and died September 28, 2013. She celebrated her 90th birthday with a large party of friends and family. Blanche is survived by daughters Joan Schmitt (Wayne), Denver, Gale Sifford (Kenneth), Ogden, UT., Sally Jo Button, Denver, brother Joseph Burns (Gloria), Santa Barbara, CA., five grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her first husband, Norman Osborne, son John Derek Osborne, brother John E. Burns, and Dale M. Button. An Alaskan of pioneer parents, Blanche's school years were spent in Fairbanks, Seward and Cordova, AK. She married her high school sweetheart Norman Osborne and moved to Seattle where son John Derek was born. As a student of the Cornish School of Music in Seattle, Blanche taught piano and composed music. Norman was a casualty of WW II. To the Big Band music of the forties, Blanche met Dale M. Button and they danced through a whirlwind courtship and were married in Fairbanks in 1947. The Air Force and hospital administration assignments took the family to New York, Texas, Colorado, and North Africa. Upon Dale's retirement they stayed in Colorado living in Montrose, Denver, and Grand Junction. Blanche and Dale had over fifty-three wonderful years, supporting each other through the death of John Derek and sharing Blanche's musical activities. After Dale's retirement, they settled in Colorado. Blanche was active in teaching piano, a writer's group and playing bridge. She served as a member and past president of the Colorado Music Association. A memorial service will be held at Horan and McConaty Mortuary, Sunday, October 6th at 2:00 pm., 3101 S.
