Brian Douglas Rainwater passed away June 15, 2014 after a 6-year journey with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Memorial service will be Thursday June 19, 2014 at 3 p.m. at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 7577 West 80th Avenue, Arvada, Colorado 80003. Brian was born November 28, 1956 in Michigan City, Indiana to Clarence and Eunice Rainwater, the older of two children. In high school his interest in electronics was sparked by a favorite teacher. He went on to receive a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University where met his wife, Nancy. They were married in 1979 while Brian was studying and recently celebrated their 35th anniversary. Brian and Nancy left Purdue in 1981 when Brian accepted his first position with Boeing Military Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas. In the years following, the family traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where Brian worked for GE Medical. There, the family expanded with the birth of daughter, Lindsey Nicole and son, Jonathan Wesley. The family came to Colorado in 1990 when Brian began his position with a local imaging company. More recently, he enjoyed his work at Raytheon supporting system engineers in Antarctica. Brian's Christian faith was important to him. He participated in several small group meetings in homes and ushering at church. Brian loved his family and they spent many happy times together taking bicycle rides and group camping with other home-school families. His favorite pastimes were tinkering with cars, working on the house, and gardening. Brian was passionate about Midwestern cuisine, especially outdoor barbecue and perfecting hand-crafted pizza. He liked to help people - especially with their cars or a lending hand with a move. He enjoyed having pets and was never without a cat, dog and more. Brian was a warm-hearted soul with a good sense of humor. The last few years, he enjoyed traveling the neighborhood, pushing the limits of his wheelchair, with his caregiver and dog. Once diagnosed with ALS, Brian was eager to connect with others on this journey. Brian and Nancy built friendships with families and he found great comfort in the support of others coping with ALS. In addition to his wife and children, Brian is survived his sister, Paula Jane Campion and brother-in-law, Richard, as well as niece Tiffany who reside in the Indianapolis area. The family has requested that memorials be sent to MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Assn.) or the ALSA (Rocky Mountain Chapter, ALS Assn.).
