Bruce Edward Plomondon passed away suddenly from complications of type 1 diabetes at the age of 63 on July 31st, 2024. He was born on May 2nd, 1961, in Denver, Colorado. He is survived by his wife of 30 years Paula, daughter Janeen and her husband Dylan, older brother Brian, sister-in-law Karen, younger sister Leslie, nieces Renée and Daniell, nephew Dylan, and Father Donald Plomondon. His mother, Patricia, preceded him in passing during the summer of 2023. He was also loved by Paula’s brother Brian, sister-in-law Jennifer, and their daughter Katie as well as Paula’s mother, Sarah.
Bruce graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1979 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado Boulder in 1984. He met his wife Paula in 1988 at a young adult’s group at St. Thomas More Church and together they had their only daughter Janeen in 1997.
Bruce spent 40 years working for Lockheed Martin in engineering design and senior management. His most recent role was in providing leadership to the Ground Support Equipment team, where he played a critical role in missions including GPS satellites, weather satellites, and the Orion spacecraft. His ability as an engineer was evident throughout his life in his ability and insistence on fixing things himself, from cars, to burst water pipes, washing machines, and more. He delighted in building things with his daughter like toys for her cats, IKEA furniture, and model rockets as well as working on home, automotive, and farming projects with his brother and father.
He found particular peace in gardening, cooking, and science fiction novels and movies. Everyone around him knew the deliciousness of his vegetables and the perfection of his soups, pancakes, and zucchini bread which he gave away at every opportunity. He also loved taking road trips and exploring the U.S. with his family.
Throughout his life, Bruce put others before himself, showing his love through acts of service. Everyone in Bruce’s life was deeply touched by his generosity and thoughtfulness. He is already and will continue to be deeply missed.
A memorial mass will be held for Bruce at 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 22nd at All Soul’s Catholic Parish: 4950 S Logan St, Englewood, CO 80113. There will be a reception to follow at the church.
