Burton Charles Boothby

Burton Charles Boothby, 92, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on January 15, 2017, in the comfort of his family. Burton was born on February 29, 1924, on the family farm near Cherokee, Iowa, to Laurence and Esther Boothby. Following graduation on May 22, 1941, from Wilson High School in Cherokee, Iowa, 17-year-old Burton enrolled in the University of Colorado. His attendance at CU was interrupted following the entry of the United States in World War II when Burton enlisted in the Navy and became a pilot who flew Corsairs until the conclusion of hostilities when he returned to Boulder to complete his undergraduate degree. Following the birth of his first son, Laurence, and his graduation from law school at the University of Denver, Burton again served as a Navy jet pilot in the Korean War. With Thomas Meade, Burton co-founded Mobile Premix Concrete, a Colorado company that employed over 1, 200 persons. Burton was also instrumental in developing numerous commercial and residential real estate projects and co-founded one of the largest car wash franchises in the United States. Burton's passion, however, was found in his involvement with local, national and international clubs and associations, which included the Urban Land Institute, the Colorado Association of Realtors, Boy Scouts of America, the Denver Athletic Club, YMCA, the Colorado chapter of his college fraternity, Delta Tau Delta, El Jebel Shriners, Denver, the Institute for International Advisory Committee, Center for International Business Education with the University of Colorado at Denver, the CU Buff Club, as a designated ""Eagle"" with the Republican National Committee, a life membership with the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle, and the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center. Burton is survived by his sons, Laurence Boothby and Donald Orendorff, his daughter, Marilou Kiessig, his grandchildren, Ashley Boothby, Lindsay Boothby, Taylor Kiessig, Austin Kiessig, and Emily Orendorff, his sister, Janene Duthie, his nieces and nephew, great nieces and nephews, and his loyal Cairn Terrier, McTadisch. Burton was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Marjorie, his first wife, Dr. Carol Hunter, his second wife, Viola, and his son, Charles Boothby. Visitation will be held on January 27, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd, Denver. The funeral service will be held on January 28, 2017, at 1:30 p.m. at Montview Presbyterian Church, 1980 Dahlia St., Denver, officiated by Reverend Clover Beal. Burial will follow the funeral service at Fairmont Cemetery, 430 S. Quebec St., Denver In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center or the Burton C.
