C. Gordon Shaffer

September 30, 1925 — December 26, 2018

Gordon Shaffer, of Parker, died on December 26th, 2018 at age 93. A Colorado native, Mr. Shaffer spent his early childhood in the still-growing city of Denver selling soda pop to construction workers at a corner stand in the Park Hill neighborhood. Among his early jobs as a teenager were serving as a bike messenger with Western Union, and driving a milk truck to the 10thMountain Division Army training facility in Minturn. Mr. Shaffer served in World War II as a ball turret gunner, until his plane was shot down near Leipzig Germany in 1945, and he became a prisoner of war. Upon his repatriation after the war, Mr. Shaffer began working in the airline industry. Over the course of his career, he worked for Frontier Airlines and Executive Jet Aviation. Notably, he served as the Director of Human Resources and the Director of Safety at Stanley Aviation, retiring in 1993 after 20 years of service. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. Mr. Shaffer was an active advocate for the National Kidney Foundation of Colorado for over 25 years, serving as President from 1988-1989. He is survived by five children, his niece, five grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
