Cal Justin Stevens, 17, of Aurora passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 after a courageous battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Cal was born on May 15, 1998 in Denver, Colorado, to parents Randy Stevens and Cindie (Collins) Stevens. He was the brother of Niko Stevens. He attended Cimarron Elementary School, Horizon Middle School, and Smoky Hill High School, Aurora. Cal loved to play baseball. He began his playing career at the age of four with the Arapahoe Youth League Spartans, later with the Cherry Creek Little League, Aurora Wildcats, and the Colorado Riverdogs. Most recently he played for Smoky Hill High School and was named to the Varsity team as a junior, and also the Colorado Bandits during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The Colorado Bandits have retired jersey #8 in Cal's honor. He was an umpire for the Cherry Creek Little League. Cal began refereeing football for the Arapahoe Youth League in 2013, continuing a proud family tradition as a crew member with his dad and brother along with his uncles and cousins. Cal's dream was to be a United States Marine. That dream was fulfilled shortly before his passing. He will also be counted among the 2016 graduating class of Smoky Hill High School. In addition to his parents and brother, Cal is survived by grandparents, Janet Stevens, Mark and Bonnie Betts; aunts and uncles, Cindy and Kevan Heitman, Russ and Debbie Stevens, Shaun Stevens, Troy and Brandy Stevens, Nicole Betts, Matt Betts and wife, Jamie Wilson; cousins, Angela Heitman, Josh Heitman, Anthony and Whitney Heitman, Mikenna Stevens, Brinnli Stevens, Brooklyn Stevens, Alyse Stevens, London Stevens, Brett Stevens. He is preceded in death by a grandpa, Douglas Stevens; an uncle, Scott Stevens; and his dog, Bear. A viewing will take place 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, January 15, 2016 at the Horan & McConaty Chapel, 11150 East Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, CO 80014. A funeral service will begin 11:30 a.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Elevation Christian Church, 15600 E. Alameda Pkwy, Aurora, CO 80017. Interment is private.
