Calvin “Cal” H. Templeton of Bailey, CO passed away on November 5, 2024, at the age of 88.
Cal was born April 9, 1936, in Pittsburg, PA. After graduation from high school Cal joined the Air Force Reserve where he flew the C124 and completed the Air Training Command, specializing in Aircraft Mechanics and Aircraft Maintenance. In 1957 he attended the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics earning the Master Airframe & Powerplant Mechanics diploma. Cal graduated from Embry-Riddle International School of Aviation in 1959, completing Commercial Ground School, and earning the Instrument Pilot and Commercial Pilot diplomas. Continuing his aeronautical education in 1960, he completed the FAA Air Traffic Control training and certification. He went on to work in Miami as an Air Traffic controller for years. Cal started his career as a pilot flying for Hawaiian Airlines before quickly being promoted as Captain with Continental Airlines, where he flew for over 30 years.
Cal’s passions and hobbies after retirement included cross country travel with his wife in their RV, researching and documenting family genealogy, old classic cars and flying his 1947 Stinson airplane. Cal was a member of Golden Eagles, The American Legion and Silver Wings.
Cal is proceeded in death by his parents, Alone and Stella Templeton. Survived by his wife of 51 years, Bonnie, and his two daughters, Jennifer, and Jill (David Haislip).
A private family service will be held at Ft Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. In lieu of flowers those wishing to honor Cal’s life can make a donation in his name to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or any Veteran’s Charity.
Blue skies and tailwinds, Cal has flown west.
