Captain D.E. ""Hap"" Hampton, US Navy (Ret.), age 88, passed away November 23, 2008, in Sheffield, Alabama. A WWII veteran, Hap earned the Legion of Merit with two battle stars & presidential citation for his part in capturing the U505 German submarine now displayed in Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry. A member of Riverside Baptist Church, Hap was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Millie; daughters, Deborah, age 7, and Diane Sims, age 56; siblings, James Hampton, Kathleen Hampton Bolton, Grace Hampton McVay. He is survived by sisters Mary Frances Berryman and Dorothy Jean Bendall of Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service, Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at 10 AM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (one block to the west of Holly Street), in Centennial, Colorado.
