Capt. D.E. ""Hap"" Hampton

Captain D.E. ""Hap"" Hampton, US Navy (Ret.), age 88, passed away November 23, 2008, in Sheffield, Alabama. A WWII veteran, Hap earned the Legion of Merit with two battle stars & presidential citation for his part in capturing the U505 German submarine now displayed in Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry. A member of Riverside Baptist Church, Hap was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Millie; daughters, Deborah, age 7, and Diane Sims, age 56; siblings, James Hampton, Kathleen Hampton Bolton, Grace Hampton McVay. He is survived by sisters Mary Frances Berryman and Dorothy Jean Bendall of Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Service, Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at 10 AM, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 East County Line Road (one block to the west of Holly Street), in Centennial, Colorado. Interment follows at 12 PM, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Area ""A."" In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the American Heart Association, 1280 South Parker Road, in Denver, Colorado 80231.
