Carl Alfred Nuernberger, 90 of Lakewood, CO passed away on May 6, 2022 after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 2, 1931 in Venus, Nebraska to Carl & Ethel Nuernberger, he was a devoted, proud father, grandfather, husband and brother. Carl grew up a simple Nebraska farm boy. He had a strong faith in God and loved his Lutheran Church community. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force proudly serving his country during the Korean War where he earned both a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal reaching the rank of Staff Sargent prior to his honorable discharge in 1955. After graduating from Wayne State College in Wayne, NE, where he met and married is wife of 65 years, Merry Lou Texley, he started his career as a teacher. In 1961 he moved his young family to Colorado in 1961 where he worked for Allstate Insurance as an agent for over 37 years. He easily became a trusted advisor to his customers and was certainly a friend to all who knew him.
Carl was devoted to many causes including Special Olympics, the Developmentally Disabled population, Friends of Man, the Arts and many others. He loved the Colorado mountains, traveling and puttering in his rose garden. Beyond his family he loved his dogs immensely. He could always be seen with his dog at his side hiking, walking or traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Merry Lou Nuernberger, Lakewood, CO; daughters Diane Nuernberger, Wheatridge, CO & Carla (Tim) St. Germain, Pinehurst, NC; sons Doug (Denise) Nuernberger, Dripping Springs, TX & Brian (Laurie) Nuernberger, Bullhead City, AZ; as well as his treasured granddaughter Sophia Nuernberger, Dripping Springs, TX his faithful dog, Woody.
A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 pm, Noon, Tuesday, July 12, 2022, Lutheran Church of the Master, 14099 W. Jewell Ave., Lakewood, CO 80228, followed by a Celebration of Life Luncheon at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Special Olympics.
