Carlene J. Stolba

Carlene J. (Banes) Stolba, lovingly known by most as ""Buby"", age 77, passed away August 21, 2011 in Thornton, Colorado. She had been residing in Elms Haven Care Center while recovering from medical issues. Carlene was born on June 3, 1934, to Frank and Agnes Banes in Clutier, Iowa. On August 15, 1954 she married Leonard Stolba in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They moved to Buena Vista, Colorado in 1980. Carlene loved crocheting, quilting and bowling. She was especially proud of participating in 25 consecutive years of Women's State bowling tournaments. She also had a passion for gardening, canning and cooking, teaching many family members how to make kolaches, a Czechoslovakian wedding pastry. Carlene was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Vernon, Allen and Franklin Banes and son Richard. At the time of Carlene's death, her husband, Leonard was surviving and resided at the Elms Haven Care Center in Thornton. Since then, on September 13, 2011, just three weeks after Carlene's death, her beloved husband, Leonard also passed away. Carlene is now survived by her sons, Ken (Annette) Stolba, of Buena Vista; Bryon (Lisa) Stolba, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Jenise Stolba of Northglen, Colorado; Dwayne Bolin of Thornton, Colorado; sister, Betty Yuska of Cedar Rapids, Ia; brothers, Dick (Laura) Banes, of Cedar Rapids, Ia, and Roger (Liz) Banes, of Bonney Lake, Washington; nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends. A Memorial service for Carlene will be held at the Elms Haven Care Center, 12080 Bellaire Way, Thornton, Co. 80241 on Friday, September 2, 2011, at 1pm. A Memorial service celebrating both the lives of Carlene and Leonard will be held in Buena Vista, on Saturday, September 24, 2011, 2:00pm, at the American Legion, 338 North Railroad. An additional Celebration of the Lives of Carlene and Leonard will be held on October 2, 2011, 1:00pm, at the Iowa Noelridge Christian Church, 7111 C Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52402. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service before the burial at the cemetery.
