Carlos Gilbert Baca

Carlos Gilbert Baca ~ 88, of Denver, Colorado passed away on May 8, 2017. He is survived by his children, David Leroy Baca, Dianne Montoya & Carlos D. Baca; siblings, Pete Baca, Stella Valdez, Ernest Baca, Bill ""DD"" Baca, Esther Robledo & Ruby Vigil; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose M. Baca; and son, Steve P. Baca. Carlos was born February 12, 1929, in Walsenberg, Colorado. At a young age, he moved to Wyoming to work as a sheep herder and used his earnings to help support his family. In 1940, the whole family moved to Denver, CO, where Carlos attended West High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1947, and was stationed at Fort Ord near Monterey Bay in California where he was assigned to a training company of the Fourth Infantry Division. There, he instructed recruits in the technique and tactical employment of basic weapons. Carlos was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1948, after 18 months of service. Carlos was a devoted husband, loving father and brother and loyal friend and he will be missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. A visitation will be held on Monday May 15, 2017 from 6-8pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 9998 Grant Street in Thornton. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday May 16th, 10am at The Crossing Church of the Nazarene, 3501 W. 104th Avenue in Westminster. Interment to follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery.
