Carlos ""Chuck"" Leal III was born in Julesburg, CO and spent his childhood in Greeley, CO. He graduated from University High School in 1979 and from C.U. Boulder in 1983 with a degree in economics. He earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Colorado Law School in 1987. Carlos practiced law for Dow Chemical in Michigan and for BASF in New Jersey. He returned home to Colorado to join Patton Boggs, then Dewey & LeBoeuf before establishing his own firm in 1997. He finished his career in independent practice. Carlos loved practicing law and was generous throughout his career in providing pro bono services. He liked to say that his skill as a litigator was a result of growing up with three argumentative sisters! He enjoyed global travel, cooking, golfing and had particular affection for his pets. He was a great conversationalist, a good debater and an incredible listener. He solved difficult and personal problems on behalf of others and his kindness to animals endeared him to loved ones. He had a wonderful sense of humor; he laughed all the way up to his eyes and we will miss him very, very much. Carlos is survived by his son Carlos Maxwell IV, his spouse Mary ""Sam"" Klosterman, his father Carlos Leal and wife Erendira, his sisters Val Leal-Whitehead (Bill), Vivian Watson (Felix Lucero), Vicki Leal Larsen (Saul) along with his nieces, nephews and numerous extended family members. Carlos was preceded in death by his mother Alicia Aguayo Leal, his maternal grandparents Marciano and Jovita Aguayo, his paternal grandparents Carlos and Carmen Leal and his nephew Joseph Corwin Watson. A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 18, 2015 at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 1091 South Colorado Boulevard, Denver with a reception following in the Horan & McConaty Reception Center.
