Carmella M. Brancucci

Carmella Brancucci, 91, passed away January 29, 2008. Born May 20, 1916, to Italian immigrant parents in Denver Colorado. Carmella left the traditional public school system in 1930 when her mother died. She helped her father by taking care of the their home in Denver's Little Italy,. and assisted him in raising her five sisters and brother. Carm continued her education as time from her other duties allowed, receiving her high school diploma from Opportunity School in 1935 Alway adept with her hands, she became a trimmer at GrossWholesale Tailors in 1942, and rose to the position of floor lady, preparing material for power sewing machine operators, and directing the4 work of tailors and tailors' assistants. In 1955 she moved to E&S Manufacturing and later to Epstein Manufacturing where she oversaw the manufacture of men's cloting as floorlady until 1962 Carm began working for the U.S. Governement as a statistical analyst for the Department of Mine Safety and Health Administration in 1965. She developed reports and charts monitoring metal, non-metal and coal mining operations, accidents and injuries. She was awarded several honors for her superior work, attention to detail, and dedication. She rose to supervisory level before retiring in 1981. Although she never married, Carm was dedicated to her family, helping her sibilings raise their children, teaching them the pride deruved from a clean home and the joy of sharing a well cooked meal. As the surrogate matriarch of the Brancucci family, her six siblings and 20 nieces and nephews recognized that she was the boss. Her diminutive stature, just under five feet, housed a remarkably strong will and a loving heart. Carmella Brancucci was deeply loved, and will be greatly missed
