Carol Ann Mari

May 3, 1940 — February 19, 2014

Carol Ann (Vogt) – Mari, 73, of Highlands Ranch, CO passed away on February 19, 2014, in her home, dying peacefully in her sleep, after battling several bouts of cancer. Carol was born on May 3, 1940, in Dalton, NE to Joseph Ferdinand Vogt and Lenora Mary Cortney. She grew up on a ranch in Harrisburg, NE with her younger brother James Joseph. After finishing high school at Saint Patrick's in Sydney, NE, she moved to Denver, CO and was a student nurse at St. Joseph's School of Nursing when she met her future husband, John Mari, who was employed at Martin Marietta and they were married on July 7, 1962. They were blessed with four children. Their first, William Brian was born in 1963, followed by Stephanie Elizabeth in 1965, then John Jeffrey in 1967 and Michelle Jeannine in 1969. She continued her nursing career as an RN until she retired in 1999. Carol was a member of Saint Mark's Church in Highlands Ranch, CO. Carol dedicated her life to Lord Jesus, her husband and her four kids. She instilled theses values in her kids through her constant and unwavering devotion to her family. The kids recount all of the vacations across the state of Florida while living a short -while in Clearwater Beach, FL including trips to Disney World, the Everglades, Cape Canaveral, St Augustine and Busch Gardens. They also have memories of many other great trips like Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone. On many of these trips, it was easy to identify we were a family with matching Hawaiian outfits. Carol was very active and busy. She was passionate about nursing and worked as an RN at various times through her life. She also donated countless volunteer hours giving to many projects because she liked to serve and genuinely loved people. Examples of her service to others included sewing curtains for her children's entire school, preparing meals for people in need with her church's Alter and Rosary Association, presiding as the Home and School Association President at All Souls Elementary School, and much more. Even though she went through countless illnesses, later in life, she always had good advice. Whether it was about relationships, health, the Bible or anything in general, she always had words of encouragement and looked at the positive side of things, no matter how bleak the situation seemed to be. Carol and her husband, John, spent memorable vacation time at their condominium in Fort Myers Beach often times with her brother James and sister-in-law Faye who live there. Her positive attitude, continued smile, and relentless perseverance through a variety of illnesses in the recent years have been a blessing for her loved ones. In the summer of 2012, Carol and her husband John were fortunate to have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with extended family and friends and recount the blessed marriage and life Carol had with us. A public visitation will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2014 from 3pm - 5pm, with Rosary to follow at 5pm at Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 5303 E. County Line Rd.
