Carol Lee VanDyke , 71 of Denver, Colorado passed away Saturday October 14, 2017 after a brief illness. Carol was born in Durango, Colorado May 22, 1946 to John and Lillie Fresquez (Lopez). The family moved from SW Colorado to Denver that same year and her 2 sisters Charlotte and Jeraldine were born in 1947 and 1948 respectively. Carol is survived by her daughter Maria T. VanDyke (Ithaca, NY), granddaughter Lumika VanDyke and her sister Jeraldine Fitzgerald, Mike, her husband, their sons, Tim and Ryan Fitzgerald, her former husband Arlyn VanDyke, aunts Lucy James, Pauline Maestes, Doris Sanders and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Carol attended Cathedral High School in Denver and graduated in 1963 and then attended the University of Iowa graduating in 1968 with a BS in Dentistry: Dental Hygiene. Carol experienced a very challenging and difficult life. She continually forged ahead. Our prayer is that her new life will be one of beauty and peace. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday October 30, 2017 at 3 p.m. at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel 5303 E. County Line Rd. Centennial, CO 80122. A Vigil Service will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Hood Mortuary 1261 E. Third Ave. Durango, CO 81301. Final Committal Rites and interment will take place at Greenmount Cemetery in Durango, CO.
