Carole Cavanaugh

July 29, 1931 — May 9, 2011

Carole (Fox) Cavanaugh, 79, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado passed away May 9, 2011 at her home with family at her side. She was born July 29, 1931 in Burlington, Wisconsin to Peter and Blanche (Brandes) Fox. She was the eldest of three children. She grew up on the family farm in Brighton Township, Kenosha County, graduated from Wilmot High School in 1949 and then attended Prospect Hall Secretary School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, graduating in 1952. On July 18, 1953, she married William (Bill) Cavanaugh of Rockford, Illinois who she had met and was dating while in Milwaukee. While living in Milwaukee they started a family, blessed with children Michael (1954) and Mark (1957). In 1963, they moved to Elmhurst, Illinois and the family grew with the blessing of Philip (1964). She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, homemaker, avid golfer and tennis player, and volunteer at the elementary school her boys attended. She enjoyed knitting, crafts, gardening, traveling, camping, boating, fishing and being involved in her family's activities. She was a giver. Her family and friends were often the happy recipients of her hard work and generosity. In 1988, after Bill's retirement, and the allure of pending grandchildren, they moved to Colorado to be near her sons who had married and re-located to the Denver area, and were beginning families. The grandchildren became a big part of her life. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, never missing a program, sporting event, or special occasion, always making Birthdays and Holidays a special occasion. Once in Colorado, she and Bill quickly adapted to their new home and the Colorado lifestyle, with the help of a great group of neighbors and ""Bunko buddies."" She also kept active by helping out at Phil's printing business ""The Shop"" where she will be missed by everyone. She continued to enjoy golf, socializing and making new friends at Pinehurst and Columbine Country Clubs. For the past 10 years they became part of a group know as the ""Winter Texans"" who spent January and February in the Corpus Christi area enjoying the change of scenery, the warm weather, and golf. She is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Cavanaugh; her three sons, Michael of Evergreen , Colorado; granddaughter Kaitlin, Mark (Valerie) Cavanaugh of Littleton, Colorado; granddaughters Alison and Hilary, Philip (Amy) Cavanaugh of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren Joseph and Sarah; Sister Joan (Fox) Arnone, Brother Richard Fox, both of Racine, Wisconsin. A Memorial Service will be May 13, 2011, 11:00 a.m., Saint Luke's United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Memorial contributions may be made in Carole's name to the American Cancer Society, 2255 South Oneida Street, Denver, Colorado 80224.
