Carole Lynn Hastings, age 51, passed away peacefully at home in Aurora CO on April 14, 2020, with family by her side. Born in Cedar Rapids, IA on December 30, 1968, Carole had a short yet courageous battle with cancer. She was diagnosed in January 2020 with uterine leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that proved resistant to treatment.
Carole was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Carole Hastings. She leaves behind her father, Eugene Hastings; along with her siblings Mike, Steve (Joanne), Ann Visser (Tim) and their children Jason and Rachel, Doug (JoAnne Horn-Hastings), Susan Heikkinen (Mark) and their children Sydney and Ryan, Chris (Lynne Blesener), and her Aunt Margee.
Carole also had many loving friends. The family is grateful to the countless friends who showered her with love, gifts, meals, and special memories.
Following high school at John F. Kennedy High in Cedar Rapids, Carole graduated from the University of Iowa and spent her professional life as an early childhood educator. She adored her kids and work family at Timberline Elementary and was a proud, passionate, and imaginative teacher who was loved by her students, their parents, and her coworkers. She will be missed.
Carole was given the nickname Pooh Bear when she was very young. As she grew up, it became simply ""Pooh"", a nickname that stayed with her all her life. It was appropriate in many ways. Carole, like Winnie The Pooh, cherished her friends and family and lived life to its fullest.
""How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard."" Winnie The Pooh.
Services and a Celebration of Life will be delayed until coronavirus restrictions are lifted and travel deemed safe by public health officials.
A Memorial Fund has been set up in Carole's name on gofundme.com (https://tinyurl.com/yc6w2qey) to be used for a Memorial Bench on Timberline Elementary School grounds.
