Caroline Patience Ensminger Barcafer, known affectionately as Pat, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 7th, 2025, at the age of 89. She was born on February 23rd, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois, and spent her early years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before moving to Prairie Village, Kansas. Pat graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1952 and went on to attend the University of Kansas.
A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Pat leaves behind her three children, Ward “Web” Barcafer, Jean Gebers, and Tinker Lily Chambers, along with their families: grandchildren Joy Larison, Christian Barcafer, and Chris Andersen, and two great-grandchildren, Austin Gebers and Joseph James Dale Larison (Joey). She was a beloved presence in the lives of her loved ones and will be remembered for her devotion to family.
Pat was an intellectually gifted and multi-faceted woman who embraced life’s many opportunities. She worked on Governor Love's re-election campaign and served as a Republican lobbyist. An entrepreneur at heart, she also found success as a real estate broker. Her passion for service and leadership led her to become a Girl Scout Leader, known as "Sunny," after her formative years as a Blue Bird and Camp Fire Girl. She contributed to the Arapahoe County School Board Finance Committee and worked within the home construction services industry. For several years, she could be found sailing her sailboat at Cherry Creek Reservoir, a hobby she loved.
Her personal life was rich with relationships and experiences. Pat cherished her cat, Starshine, and held a special bond with her daughter-in-law’s Russian family. She was incredibly close to her grandchildren and had a knack for fixing just about anything. A practical and highly capable woman, Pat’s physical health and sharp mind remained remarkable until the end.
Pat led a life deeply rooted in her Christian faith, and her devotion to her beliefs was unwavering. She will be missed greatly by all who knew her. In accordance with her wishes, her ashes will be scattered over growing plants.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to their church in Pat's honor.
Pat leaves behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and service, and her memory will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known her.
