Carolyn Olive Dungan

June 10, 1929 — September 16, 2011

82, of Denver, CO, passed away Friday September 16, 2011 at home. She was born June 10, 1929 in Forest City, Missouri to Winfield Scott and Esther Evelin Gifford. Carolyn graduated from the University of Colorado and Colorado State University. A role model to many, she taught in the Denver public schools for thirty years.

She traveled extensively internationally and had a broad network of friends and family who will miss her. A whole purpose thinker, Carolyn actively contributed to the community around her; she was a member of Pi Lambda Theta, The Colorado Mountain Club, The League of Women Voters, and BookEnds Book Club.

She is survived by her ex-husband Roger Dungan and children Judith Hebb, Brian, and Brett; 7 grandchildren (Garrett, Kristin, Kendra, Kayla, Brinda, Bonita, and Becky); 5 great-grandchildren (Sabrea, Jared, Monet, Tyler, and Jadon); brother Roger Gifford; sisters Julia May Caglione, Virginia Burton, and Phyllis Reily. She was preceded in death by grandson Barret and sister Winifred Niebur.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Horan & McConaty, 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gateway Battered Women’s Services, P.O. Box 914, Aurora, CO 80040 or the Arthritis Foundation.
