Carolyn Sue Thomas

June 30, 1941 — April 20, 2017

Carolyn Sue Thomas was born in Smackover, Arkansas, to Emerson Coit and Mittie Estelle Rivers, both deceased. The second of four children, Sue is survived by her sisters Lucy Aman and Ruth Stanley as well as her brother Jack Rivers. In 1978, Sue married Donald Thomas who preceded her in death in March 2016. Together, they are survived by their children Steve Thomas, Susan Ausec, Mary Thomas, and Kelley Coleman, grandchildren Chris and Melinda, and great-grandchild Troy. Outside of her immediate family, Sue greatly loved the entire Thomas Clan and regularly talked of the blessings they brought into her life. Sue graduated from New London High School in east Texas, attended San Diego City College and obtained a bachelor degree in Political Science from University of Colorado at Denver. She utilized her degree providing political consultancy services through Walt Klein and Associates and the National Center for Initiative Review (NCIR) in the mid 1980's. She was active in county and state Republican politics and worked on a myriad of local and state campaigns. She felt particularly blessed to serve a term as the Arapahoe County Republican Chair and enjoyed a number of exciting opportunities during that time, including managing Presidential and other VIP advance team activities. She eventually moved into a public servant role within the Federal government's Resolution Trust Corporation. Once retired, Sue focused her energies on homemaking by providing care for her mother, Estelle, and the rest of the extended family. She rescued and loved a number of small breed dogs over the years. She was an active and devoted parishioner at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. She enjoyed shopping, lunching with the ladies, playing card and online games, traveling, cooking, and true crime shows. In 2013, she traveled with family to Rome, visiting the Vatican and other historical sites. After surviving breast cancer ten years ago, Sue succumbed to metastatic lung cancer.
