Carolyn Ann was born in Hays, Kansas, November 11th, 1940 to John and Marcella Haselhorst. She graduated from Russell HS in 1959 and moved to Salina, KS to attend Brown Mackie business school, graduating two years later with her Associates degree. She was raised a small town Kansas girl, but was always drawn to the big city. She left Salina for Colorado to work for Household Finance.
After several years of enjoying the single and working life, she was set up on a blind date with Wes Wilklow. Immediately smitten, he proposed on the third date. Unsure if she was ready to move forward so quickly, she left for Las Vegas to help open a new location of Household Finance. Wes followed her out there to ask for her hand once again, and she accepted. She rejoined him in Colorado, and they were married on May 25th, 1965. They had their first child, MaryLyn, in April the following year. Followed by Holly in 1970, and Colette in 1975.
Carolyn was an incredibly talented seamstress and made clothes for several clients for a living. In 1976, Carolyn decided to join the outside working world again. She started at the Denver Dry, became Assistant Manager for Walden Bookstore (her favorite job) retired, but became restless and finished her career at United Natural Foods. She also spent many hours volunteering at St. Pius X school and parish, and the Food Bank of the Rockies. Carolyn had a passion for art, classical music and symphony, reading, working in her yard, decorating and redecorating her home, traveling, especially anywhere near the sea, her Catholic faith, and spending time with her family and five grandchildren who knew her as Bubbie! Her final years were spent at Sunrise of Westminster Assisted Living, reading books, working puzzles, watching HGTV, making new friends, and starting each day with coffee and reading her Denver Post from front to back!
The family would like to thank the staff at Optum Infusion and Bloom Health & Hospice. We would especially like to thank the staff at Sunrise for their kind, compassionate and loving care. To all the caregivers that would come to Mom's room just to sit on her bed and chat, or work the puzzle with her. Mom's favorite phrase with her family was Love ya, bye, see ya, she continued this saying with the staff, who became her extended family and had them saying it back to her. Despite health challenges in her final years, our Mom never lost her spark, her spunk, her sass, or her sense of humor, and we heard again and again, the words "I just love your Mom"! That is because she was one incredibly special lady!
Preceded in death by parents, John and Marcella Haselhorst, husband, Wes Wilklow, brother-in-law, Michael Haas, and son-in-law, Kelly Miller. Survived by one sister, Margery Haas (Michael) three daughters, MaryLyn (Phil), Holly (Kelly) and Colette Lohr, and five grandchildren, Colton, Mallory, Jonathan, Emily, and Roman,
If you have purple in your wardrobe, please consider wearing it to the services.
