Carrie Speakman passed away peacefully in Denver, CO on June 24, 2015. Born September 18, 1916 in Boyd, Oklahoma, she grew up in a farm setting with her family of four brothers and three sisters. She graduated from high school in 1935 and attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Oklahoma. Carrie then married Theodore Speakman on October 26, 1941. She worked as a checker for Safeway and taught school as a third grade teacher during World War II. Carrie and Theodore raised four children, residing in Lakewood, Colorado when Theodore retired in 1977. She is a former member of Our Savior's Church in Lakewood. She became a resident of Porter Place in Denver after Theodore passed in 2011, where she enjoyed many activities and new friends. She was most recent a resident of the Health Center at Franklin Park in Denver where her smile was infectious to those around her. In addition, she was an active participant at the Capitol Day/Health Center in Denver, part of InnovAge for seniors. Carrie is preceded in death by her beloved husband Theodore, and survived by three sons, Michael (Ellen) of Pingree Grove, IL, Lary of Lakewood, CO, and Daryl (Susan) of Lakewood, CO, one daughter Paula (Rich) Karabell of Arvada, CO, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren. She was an avid cook, an excellent seamstress, and a self-motivated believer in daily exercise. Family was most important of all. Memorial Service will take place Friday, July 10, 2015 at 11 am, Horan & McConaty Family Chapel, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. There will be a luncheon reception to follow.
