Catherine Barbara Clarke, 88 of Highlands Ranch, CO died peacefully February 13, 2020 surrounded by her daughters. Born in Evanston, IL on July 1, 1931 to Robert James, Jr. and Josephine James. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-six years Mike, her brother and sister in law Robert and Beverly James and brother in law William Maloney. She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses Katherine Wheeler, Mary Therese and Joe Dixon, Patricia and Matt Bean and three grandchildren: Ellen and Greg Wheeler and Leo Dixon, her sister Antoinette Maloney and 7 wonderful nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Marywood High School in Evanston, IL and attended Mundelein College in Chicago, IL. She met her beloved Mike on a blind date, and they were married December 30, 1961. A devoted wife, mother and loving grandmother, Barb was active in her communities wherever those were. While Mike was in the Navy, she was active in the Navy Wives Clubs. Upon retiring from the Navy, they moved to Colorado where Barb has been an integral community member for nearly fifty years.
A quick wit and a willing smile, she was always there when people needed her. While her three daughters were in Carl Sandburg Elementary School she served as secretary of the PTO for 2 terms. She was a devoted volunteer and retired after spending more than 20 years at the Carl Sandburg School library, where she won numerous awards and was always recognized for her reliability and cheerfulness. A faithful founding parishioner at St. Thomas More parish in Littleton, she was one of the first women Eucharistic ministers and served throughout the years with Helping Hands. An avid gardener, she was a member of the Cherry Knolls Garden Club and the Colorado Federation of Garden Clubs Friendship Gardener.
Family, friends and faith were deeply important to her and she always had an open home and an extra plate at the table. She loved sports and always knew the latest on her beloved Cubs, Rockies and Broncos. She brought joy and humor to everything she did. She leaves a legacy of unconditional love and will be deeply missed by her friends and family.
In honor of Catherine, a Funeral Mass will be held 11:00am, Monday, February 24, 2020 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church (8035 S Quebec St, Englewood, CO 80112), reception to follow. Graveside Service 1:00pm, Tuesday, Febraury 25, 2020 at Fort Logan National Cemetery Staging Area âAâ.
