Catherine (Cathey) S. Ott, 91, passed away on Thursday, March 17, 2016. A Denver native, Cathey was a Spelling Bee champion, recipient of a scholarship to Cathedral High School, graduate of Loretto Heights College, teacher, counselor, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend. While devoted to family, perhaps her legacy is best defined by her Christian values, social activism, and volunteerism, which were lifelong priorities. A staunch advocate for those in need, she volunteered at a crisis intervention/suicide prevention clinic, St. Andrew Avellino Seminary and Church, and at Maria Droste Services, a counseling center founded to reach the underserved. A stalwart Democrat, she could be counted on to work the polls, distribute campaign literature, and espouse her beliefs, which were always and inevitably well-researched and well-informed. Cathey is survived by her children Andy, Teri (Jim) Shea, Judy (Jeff) Weidman, Mary (Steve) Leintz, and Nancy (Don) Mayer; 14 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Carl A. Ott and son Steve. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 11 am, with a reception immediately following at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 2250 S. Harrison St., Denver, CO 80210. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made to the Graduate School of Social Work, Four Corners Program, University of Denver, 2148 S. High St., Denver, CO 80208-7100.
