Charleen Doty Roberts

January 6, 1931 — June 27, 2016

Charleen Roberts, daughter of John ('Trimble') and Lucille Doty, was born in Greybull, Wyoming. The family moved to Bellflower, California in the 1930's. Charleen attended Stanford University where she met her husband, Donald Van Norman Roberts. They were married in England in April, 1951. Don's career gave them the opportunity to see a great deal of the world as Charleen traveled with him whenever it was possible. She made comfortable homes for them in California, England, Virginia and Colorado. They had four children, Jean, Lynn, Alan and Jim. But their family often included nieces, nephews and cousins that stayed with them for extended periods of time. The welcome mat was always out at the Roberts' home. Don and Charleen were always generous with their time and hospitality. As a result, their friends are legion and can be found in every corner of the globe. Don preceded Charleen in death by only a few months. She is survived by her brother, John Doty, daughters Jean Leston (John) and Lynn Roberts, (David Schneider), sons Alan Roberts, Jim Roberts, and grandchildren, Toby and Meredith Leston, William and Thomas Schneider. Charleen's wonderful smile and gift of friendship will be remembered by many. She also had a great love of history, genealogy, and gardening. A private family funeral is being held at Denver's 1st Plymouth Congregational Church. A celebration service in honor of Charleen's life is planned at Vi Highlands Ranch later in the year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made online to Metro Caring at http://www.metrocaring.org/ or mailed to P.O. Box 300459, Denver, CO 80203.
