Charlene Joan Colburn (Cherie), born February 6,1928, passed away of natural causes on Saturday, March 4, 2023. A Colorado native, she started her life and entered into her eternal life in Denver, Colorado. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Colburn, her daughter, Jeannette Colburn, her parents, Theodore Hill and Gladys {Brown} Hill, her sister, Patricia Egan, and her brothers Theodore and James Hill. She is survived by her children, Celeste Blodgett (Kevin), Renee Gillespie (John), and Brian Colburn (Sherry), brother, Frank Hill, and sister, Connie Hammond.
Her grandchildren were a large part of Cherie’s life and enjoyment. She is survived by nine of them, including Troy Blodgett (Erin), Matthew Gillespie (Denise), Natalie Payant (Nathan), Aubrie Duncan (Chad), Brittany Barbour (Tom), Tiffany Culbertson (Chris), Heidi Egan (Andrew), Cole Colburn, and Toni Staff (Jordan).
Equally important to her were her great grandchildren, Cooper, Ryder, and Tucker (Blodgett), Giada and Aria (Gillespie), Faythe, Ava, and Lilian (Payant), Remington (Duncan), Peyton and Brody (Barbour), Tenley and Jackson (Culbertson), Wesley and Theo (Egan), and Wren (Staff).
Cherie had a successful career as a legal secretary in the field of engineering. She also dedicated much of her time at the Salvation Army, and supported their leadership team in a number of key administrative roles. Along with being a jack-of-all-trades, she also served as a matriarch to the many branches of her growing family tree. She will be remembered most for her love of being with family, sense of humor, appreciation of “questionable” jokes, impeccable organizational skills and eye for details, and her respect for grammar and punctuation.
Services will be held on March 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM MT at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 South Quebec Street, Englewood, CO 80112.
Cherie loved the color yellow, so we ask that you wear a splash of yellow in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, the family would recommend a donation in her name to Tunnels 2 Towers or the Disabled American Veterans.
