Charlene Frances Schmidt

Charlene Frances Schmidt, 84 of Colorado Springs, Colorado died Saturday, December 28, 2013. Charlene, daughter of Frank and Wilhelmina ""Minnie"" Kohler passed away at Viewpointe Assisted Living. She was married to Warren E. Schmidt on December 26, 1950 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Denver. He preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and her two sisters - Dorothy Keefe and Phyllis Tolan. She is survived by 4 sons, Mark Schmidt of Springfield, CO, Gene Schmidt of Denver, CO, Kurt Schmidt of Amarillo, TX and Kent Schmidt and his wife Ruthie of Longmont, CO and two daughters, Tamara Sanchez and her husband Larry of Springfield, CO and Kim Westfall and her husband John of Monument, CO. Charlene is also survived by 17 grandchildrena and 6 great grandchildren. Charlene graduated from St. Francis de Sales High School in Denver and went on to The College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota. Charlene was an active member of the Annunciation Parish for all of the years she lived in Springfield. She continued with her faith when she moved to Lamar, then Colorado Springs, then Denver. Her Catholic faith was very important to her, and she passed that beautiful faith on to her children and grandchildren. Charlene was a very busy homemaker with six children. Many of her children's friends thought of her as their second mom. They would spend many an afternoon and evening visiting with her at her home. In the 1960's, Warren and Charlene purchased a summer cabin near Allenspark, Colorado with Larry and Nila Jean Gale. She spent a lot of time in the summers with her children at the cabin. She loved the cabin and the beautiful surrounding mountains. She will be missed by her family and friends. Recitation of the Rosary, followed by the Funeral Mass will be 11:30 A.M. Monday, January 6, 2014 at The Gardens of Saint Elizabeth, 2835 West 32nd Avenue in Denver. The burial will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Boulevard, Denver.
