Charles R ""Chuck"" Avery

AVERY, CHARLES R. ""CHUCK"" May 18, 1939 - April 29, 2015 Chuck graduated from Wheat Ridge High School, married his high school sweetheart, Virginia, then earned his bachelor's degree from Fort Lewis College, in Durango, Colorado. During the time he was earning his degree he and Virginia had two children. After teaching for several years, through a grant from the National Science Foundation he earned his master's degree in geology from Northern Arizona University. He maintained a lifelong interest in geology, and never tired of the beauty of the world around him. He continued to teach in Jefferson County Schools, and in addition coached football and baseball. He loved his many years of teaching and coaching, and impacted the lives of many students. Upon retiring, he and his family built their cabin on the Western Slope, using wood from their land. He and Virginia and their family also enjoyed spending time in Southern California. When daughter, Lori, married Ken, and son, Steve, married Shell, he became the proud grandfather of five grandchildren and was an integral and special part of their lives. Chuck found great joy in brightening the lives of others with his warm smile, kind heart, and perpetually strong and positive attitude. He had a genuine interest in others' lives, and was an inspiration to many. He had a great sense of humor, a contagious laugh, and could make anyone smile. His fifty-five-year marriage was filed with incredible love. To Chuck it felt like an eternal honeymoon. Loving and devoted husband to Virginia, wife of 55 years; father of daughter, Lori, son, Steve; grandfather to Sarah, Lauren, Chloe, Lilly, and Charlie; sister, Muretta; sister-in-law, Stephanie; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by father, Charlie, mother, Audrey, sister, Myrna. Dedicated retired teacher in Jefferson County Schools. Chuck passed away surrounded by his loving family. Private services will be held.
