Chuck Engebretson, 73, died October 17, 2024 following a brief battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Wisconsin, Chuck later made Colorado his home when he moved to attend the University of Colorado Boulder. He earned a degree in Journalism and distinguished himself as a gifted photographer and graphic arts designer. After graduation, he married Jill Jamison, and together they raised two children, Kate and Matt. He was a man of many talents, starting his own printing business from his garage and later transitioning into successful careers as a realtor and tax preparer.
Chuck embraced everything Colorado had to offer, from its majestic mountains to its outdoor lifestyle. An avid cyclist, he participated in the Ride the Rockies tour—an iconic week-long biking journey through the Colorado mountains—over 15 times. Chuck passed his love of cycling on to his children, Matt and Kate, teaching them not only how to ride but also how to care for their bikes and navigate the open road. Together, they joined him on several Ride the Rockies adventures, cultivating a shared passion for biking. Many of his friends and family recall the countless rides they took with him along the Cherry Creek Bike Path, creating lasting memories.
Beyond cycling, Chuck enjoyed cooking, reading, and collecting unique treasures. His warm and welcoming personality made him a beloved figure in his community, especially among the tight-knit group of friends on Saint Paul Street.
Chuck was preceded in death by his son, Matthew; his brother, Mark; and his parents, Olaf and Virginia. He is survived by his loving family; his wife, Dr. Jill Jamison; his daughter, Kate McNamara (Kevin); and his three grandchildren, James (7), Liam (3), and Maeve (1).
Funeral services will be at St John’s Cathedral, 1350 Washington street Denver, CO on November 12, 2024 at 11:00 and will be available to stream online. Chuck’s ashes will be placed in All Souls Walk at Saint John’s next to his son’s Matthew. A reception will follow at Dagwell Hall at the church.
Donations can be made to Bicycle Colorado in Chuck’s name.
