After retirement, Charles devoted his time to volunteer work, including serving as a docent at the Denver Zoo, where he spent his time in the Great Apes exhibit. He could tell you everything about them. A devoted Catholic, he was a long-time member of the Shrine of Saint Anne Catholic Church in Arvada Colorado, where he served on the board of directors for fifteen years.

He and his wife, Donna, a professor of music at the University of Colorado - Denver, shared many travel adventures around the world, including trips to Australia, New Zealand, China, South Africa, and throughout Europe.

Charles will be remembered as a kind, caring, and generous man, with an enduring sense of humor and a deep love for those around him.
