Charles W Carter, Jr.

Charles W Carter, Jr., 70, passed away suddenly December 29, 2024, in Mesa, Arizona. Charles was born April 1, 1954, at Hill Air Force Base hospital in Ogden, Utah to Charles Walter Carter Sr. and Patsy Rae Sherwood Carter. He was the first grandchild born to William Sherwood and Zella Robinson Sherwood.

Charles attended Sunset Elementary, Sunset Junior High, and Clearfield High Schools in Davis County School District in Utah.

He had a beautiful singing voice and could reach the lowest key on the piano with great resonance and clarity, according to Les Davis, his choir and voice teacher. He was a member of the Sunset Junior High concert choir. This choir won the Utah State choir competition that included all junior and senior high schools in the state in 1970.

Charles was a member of the Sunset Junior High football team, who were undefeated and took state championship in their division in 1969-1970.

Charles married Connie Sue Clark in August 1972. They later divorced.

He joined the US Army in August 1972, during the Vietnam war, and was a member of the Battery C 1st Battalion 78th Field Artillery 2nd Armed Division. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1974.

After returning from his military service, Charles completed the education program at Central Texas College.

In 1977, Charles married Donna LiCausi and on July 20, 1979, their son, Joseph David Carter was born. He and Donna later divorced.

He married Barbara Ann and after many years of marriage, they divorced.

Charles retired after working for King Soopers for over 30 years.

He loved football, baseball and golfing. He had a heart of gold and will be missed by many.

Charles is survived by son, Joe (Susan) Carter; grandchildren, Emery Fowler and Jack Carter; brothers, Daniel Carter, Jeffrey Carter, Philip Carter; sister, Jana (Dan) Knox; his favorite Aunt Debbie (Rocky) Hayner; Uncle Tom (Marilyn) Sherwood; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends that he loved and who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, sister-in-law, Virginia Carter, and nephew, Mitchell Philip Ormsby.

Family and friends are invited to attend a military service at 2:30pm, on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver, Colorado. Please arrive at the Cemetery by 2:15pm, and gather in staging area “B”.

Following the military service, a Celebration of Life will be held beginning at 4:00pm, at the Golden Community Center, 1470 10th Street, Golden, Colorado 80401.
