It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Charles Otto Henderson, age 88, who went home to be with the Lord on March 31, 2025. A beloved husband of 56 years, father, grandfather, and friend, Chuck lived a full and vibrant life centered around faith, family, and fellowship.
A graduate of the University of Denver with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Chuck served for many years with a strong work ethic and unwavering dedication. He also frequently lent his expertise to help friends with their taxes.
Chuck was a man of deep devotion—to God, to his children and grandchildren, and to the many people whose lives he touched. His love for the Lord was reflected in his many years as Treasurer of his church, and in the generosity and integrity he displayed daily.
A lifelong sports enthusiast, Chuck rarely missed a game—whether cheering from the stands or watching from the comfort of home alongside his grandchildren. He was an avid bowler, a good softball player, and an enthusiastic card player, always competing with a twinkle in his eye and a ready smile.
He was such a skilled bowler that during his time in the Army, the base commander personally recruited him for the bowling team. His barracks mates often looked on with a mix of envy and admiration as the commander stopped by to pick him up for bowling league—a testament to both his skill and his character.
Chuck also loved traveling, from scenic road trips to unforgettable family adventures. He cherished vacation and sharing those moments with those he loved most.
He is survived by his two children, Landy Matson (Tom) and Sandy Williams (Fred); four grandchildren, Ryan Williams (Hailey), Katelin Matson, Abigail Leash (Nate), and Casandra; three brothers, James, Eugene, and Gerald; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Ethel, his brother Terry, and his parents, James and Ida Henderson.
Chuck leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and lasting memories. His wisdom, warmth, and wit will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
A celebration of Chuck’s life will be held on April 10th at 12 noon at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 2100 N Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church in his honor.
