Charles Clum Jr.

September 27, 1933 — December 18, 2020

Federal Heights

Charles Herbert “Chuck” Clum, Jr age 87, was at home in Federal Heights CO on December 18, 2020 when he took his final breath, with his wife and both dogs at his side.

Born September 27, 1933, growing up he lived in Maryland, Colorado, Guam, and graduated from Yokohama High School, Japan in 1951. Shortly after he took a ship from Japan to Seattle, WA then flew to MD where he stayed with family until he enlisted in the Navy. His first duty assignment was In San Diego CA where he met Darlene Hillier. They later married and had a baby girl Julie Ann. Chuck left the Navy after 3 years to stay on shore and enlisted in the Air Force. With several tours to Germany and Viet Nam he was discharged. Then a few years later was recruited by the US Army to be a recruiter. After 28 years serving our country he retired and finally settled down in Pahrump NV, where he became an awesome greenskeeper. When he wasn’t trimming the greens, he was perfecting his game and becoming a Hole in One legend, twice. Chuck enjoyed volunteering with the VFW & American Legion. It was at a VFW convention in Ely NV in January 2006, that he met his soulmate Sandi and they were married just a few short months later. Among their many travels they went back to Guam to visit his high school, but sadly it was no longer there. Then for Sandi’s birthday they went on to Australia to see the kangaroos and scuba dove the Great Barrier Reef. At the time of his death, they were living in Denver CO, serving in the Fort Collins Temple when it was open, then partaking of dinner every Tuesday for Date Night. He had been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints since 2011 and they were sealed for all time and eternity on their 9th anniversary July 23, 2015.

Survivors include his wife Sandi, of 14 years, their two dachshunds Schatzie and Fritz, his half-sister Margaret (Peggy) and their children Julie (Steve) Shaeffer, Jonica (Kevin) Pendergest-Capper, Meagan (Robert) Craig, all residing in CA and in CO Patrick (Jessie) Pendergest, Jr. Together, Chuck and Sandi have 10 grand-children, 13 Great Grand-children, several nieces and nephews, and many adopted missionary grand-children all over the world. Quite a posterity!

Chuck was predeceased by his parents Helen (Tatspaugh) Olsen, Charles H Clum Sr, Franz Olsen and Myrtle Clum. And His half-brother Spencer.

Chuck’s Celebration of Life was held on 2 January 2021 and his cremains will be interned in the Southern Nevada Veteran’s Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada at a date TBD.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Denver Veterans Medical Center, Clear Creek Care Center, and the Denver Hospice staff for making his last days comfortable. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the VFW National Children’s Home.
