Charles ""Chuck"" Erwin was born in a farmhouse 5 miles north of Levant, Kansas on July 28, 1922. He was an all-state basketball player in high school and received a scholarship to the University of Denver. Instead of taking the scholarship, he decided to enlist in the US Navy serving aboard the aircraft USS Lexington as a Yeoman First Class. After being honorably discharged in 1943, he married Eileen Golden. They lived in Colby, Kansas where he went to work for his father-in-law at Golden Wholesale Hardware. Chuck moved his family to Denver, Colorado in 1952 where he was employed by Townley Metal & Hardware. In 1961 Chuck and Eileen opened Bear Valley Ace Hardware establishing a prominent name in the hardware industry. They sold the hardware store to their son Ron and retired to Scottsdale, Arizona A Viewing will be held on Sunday, July 14, 2013 from 9AM - 12PM at Horan & McConaty, 3101 S.
