Charles C. Gomez, âChuck"" died in Lakewood, Colorado on February 13, 2020 at the age of 83.
Charles was born on August 13, 1936 in Valdez, Colorado to Manuelita and Eduardo Gomez. He graduated from Adams State University in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business and in 1963 with a Master of Arts in Business Administration. He married Mary Jane, his high school sweetheart in 1955. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, Charles and Mary Jane moved to Colorado Springs. Charles began working for Ft. Carson Elementary as an Elementary School Teacher. Throughout his life, Charles also worked for the Civil Service Commission and the Environmental Protection Agency. Over sixty-four years, the couple welcomed four children, seven grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren into their home. His family remembers him as a spirited, hard-working, and dedicated man committed to his family who encouraged them to pursue their goals.
Charles was an accomplished advanced master gardener and often could be found nurturing his flowers and picking vegetables in his backyard garden. He was a loving grandfather who loved attending his grandchildren's sporting events and who was passionate about education and reading, staying up to date on current world events, and following the stock market. He was an avid sportsman and loved boxing, camping, fishing, and playing softball.
Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Garcia) Gomez; children, Cindi Gallegos (Jack Rons), Stephen Gomez (Vickey Presley), Duane Gomez (Niki Cooper), Rick Gomez (Lorie Flowers); siblings, Dora Lovato and Barbara Lovato. He is preceded in death by his parents, Manuelita and Eduardo Gomez; as well as Ernie Gomez, Margaret Ruybal, Emma Apodaca, Louie Gomez, Ricardo Gomez, Madeline Barela, Jose Gomez, and Anthony Gomez.
A Memorial Service for Charles is scheduled for Saturday, February 22 at 11:00 in the morning at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel located at 3101 South Wadsworth Blvd., Lakewood, with a reception to follow at 12:00 pm. Jesse Ogas, a close family friend, will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charlesâ life.
